Spare Parts Taxonomy
Spare Parts could be classified by two dimensions:
Suppliers
There are 3 types of part-suppliers:
- Reseller: shop providing new original spare parts (for some years), built by the original producer of the car.
- Rebuilder: smaller factory, authorized for making new spare parts, (very close to original)
- Recontinioner: hand craft lab, capable of fixing and renewing old spare parts
Area
There are 3 main categories of parts:
- Mechanical: parts belonging to live component fo the car (engine, transmission, suspensions, etc). Usually, these are made in metal, mainly. Most of them are shared accross models and, sometimes, between brands
- Car Body: parts belonging to exterior and vehicle structure. Usually, these are made in metal, mainly. Most of them are not shared accross models, neither between brands.
- Tapestry: parts belonging to finishment, hosting people, sealing and covering parts. Usually, these are made by textile and/or rubber. Few of them are shared accross models, very rarely between brands
