Eurostat Report
The report was published by Eurostat on April 2016.
There is no explicit data about solar energy, only 4 categories are listed, plus "Other":
- Conventional Thermal
- Nuclear
- Hydro
- Wind
- "Other": probably it could be approximated with solar.
The EuroStat Ranking
EU contries are shown, ordered by "Conventional Thermal" utilization from left ro right.
Some highlights, about countries, merging resources between external to country environment (Uranium, Oil) and internal (Water, Wind, Sun, etc):
Country | Place | Nuclear | Conventional Thermal | Wind + Hydro+ Other |
---|---|---|---|---|
Italy | 22 | NO | 68% | 32% |
Germany | 20 | 15% | 62% | 23% |
Norway | 1 | NO | 2% | 98% |
Malta | last | NO | 92% | 8% |
France | 2 | 73% | 8% | 26% |
Austria | 5 | NO | 29% | 71% |
Bulgaria | 15 | 32% | 49% | 19% |
So, according to EuroStat and Thermal usage, Malta is the worst, Norway is the best and Bulgaria is the average.
Germany is not a country useful for comparison for Italy: it is worse than Bulgaria, belonging to the last third made of worst green countries. Like Italy
The Ecological/Economical Ranking
By Ecological and Economical point of view, another ranking should be shown: by usage of country environment resources: Hydro, Wind and Sun.
There are some interesting results to care about:
- Ranking: there is some change from EuroStat one. Malta is not the worst, since Hungary is. Austria comes from 5th position to 2th. Croatzia is the 3th.
- Nuclear: Luxemborg (4th) and Denmark (6th), together with Norway (1st), is the most green country without using Nuclear. Next ones without Nuclear are Lituany (7th) and Portugal (8th). Only 14 countires out of 28 make use of Nuclear. That is, 14 yes and 14 not
- Green Half: the most ecological countries (first 14 ones) come from 2% (NO) of Thermal to 70% (SI). Out of them, only 5 (SE, RO, ES, SI) make not use of Nuclear production
- Grey Half: the least ecological countries (last 14 ones) come from 71% (EL) of Thermal and Nuclear to 96% (HU). Out of them, 9 ones (FI, DE, BG, SK, UK, BE, FR, CZ, HU) make use of Nuclear production
- Average: Greece (15th) is the new average, using no Nuclear and Thermal at 71%. Better than Slovenia and Turkey
- European Averages: EA-19 and EA-28 are very close, between Ireland and Germany
- Italy: it is at 12th position, producing electricity from environmental source for about 32%
- Improvement: there is a large possibility of improvement, since between the 1st (NO, having 2% of external) and 2nd (AT, having 28% of external) there is a 26% increase
